data-index-in-node=\"0\">K-Boringen and STADSBADER CONTRACTORS to build one of the largest utility tunnels in Belgium<\/b><\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"1\">K-Boringen, the (micro)tunnelling division of APK Group in Belgium, and STADSBADER CONTRACTORS are joining forces to build a new utility tunnel under the Visart Lock in Zeebrugge. Commissioned by the Department of Mobility and Public Works (MOW) of the Flemish government, the works will start in November and last for two years. An information session for local residents will take place on September 14.<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"2\">Commissioned by the Maritime Access division of the Department MOW, K-Boringen (APK Group) and STADSBADER CONTRACTORS will begin work on a new utility tunnel under the Visart Lock in November. The tunnel will consolidate all underground cables and pipelines (electricity, gas, water, and telecom). Thanks to this initiative, underground utilities will be arranged clearly and efficiently, leaving room for future developments and port growth.<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"3\"><b data-path-to-node=\"3\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Above-ground works lasting two years<\/b><\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"4\">During the first year, STADSBADER CONTRACTORS will primarily apply its expertise in civil works to sink the shafts\u2014with outer diameters of 9.7 and 13.5 meters\u2014to a depth of 36 meters. Sinking shafts is nothing new for the company, though the depth and associated challenges make this project exceptional even for them. Pieterjan Pertz, Project Manager at STADSBADER CONTRACTORS: &#8220;Sinking shafts in phases at such a depth is unique in Belgium. The different soil layers we cross each require a distinct approach. Thorough analysis and meticulous planning are therefore key to this project. We are fully confident that this will allow us to create a positive impact on the Zeebrugge area once again.&#8221;<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"5\">K-Boringen will then construct the tunnel itself. At a depth of 30 meters, the company will build the approximately 145-meter-long tunnel. Featuring a diameter of 4.1 meters, the utility tunnel will become one of the deepest and largest of its kind in Belgium.<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"6\">Ward Kerkhofs, Managing Director at K-Boringen, looks forward to the technical complexity of the project and the added value it will bring to the future of Zeebrugge: &#8220;With our expertise in microtunnelling, we can deliver this technically challenging utility tunnel with minimal impact on the local area and port traffic. Projects like this demand thorough technical preparation and close collaboration between all partners involved.&#8221;<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"7\">Once the tunnel is built, the project will move into phases 2 and 3.
